This Weeks Finds...

I had a good haul this week due to a garge sale I went to in the weekend (twice)!

I don't normally bother with garage sales as I'm too lazy to get up early in the weekend but this was advertised as a 4 day sale starting friday. The old lady who lived in the house had gone into a home and the daughter was selling her materials, buttons etc as the mother had been a seamstress. Entering the house was like stepping back into the 1940's-50's as it was run down, dark and dingy but with beautiful floral carpets and wallpapers. The daughter told me that her mother had never thrown anything out and I believed her judging by the amount of fabric, trims etc that were for sale. There were even boxes of tiny scraps and ends of lace that she obviously thought she could use in some way some day. I missed the start of the sale on Friday as I was at work but went on Saturday with my friend Joanna from Little Minx and again today in case I'd missed anything! I didn't buy too much fabric as I have so much already and I never seem to use it although that didn't stop me when it came to buying buttons! My favourite find was a green bakelite tape measure dating from the 40's I think.

I've just realized that there are tons more buttons and a couple of pieces of fabric that I didn't take photos of so I'll include them in next weeks finds....

  2. I'm gutted I missed that garage sale - I didn't see it advertised in Saturday's paper.
Curiously, I have a similar catalogue, with the swatches, beaded cardis and all. It is from 1963, by the Starlight Clothing Service, P.O. Box 9020, Kowloon City, Hong Kong. I will photograph it for my blog.

    1. I saw it in DScene a couple of days before. Apparently they've been having garage sales all year! They're having a break over winter then sorting out all the knitting wool in October.

  4. What amazing finds! That first fabric is absolutely perfect. I bet I would've bought wayyy too much at a sale like that.
